In-class Task 3

Answer the following questions:
1. Why do you think evaluation of CALL courseware, websites, materials etc important?

I think it is very important to evaluate CALL courseware, websites, materials, etc. In fact, it is very important to be able and know how to evaluate those mentioned before. As future teachers, the application of courseware, websites, materieal, etc is very crucial. As the technology is developing, the same goes to the students' literacy towards the usage of computer. We cant go to the classroom and practice the Chalk & Talk method any longer. The students will get bored easily, lose focus and thus, not learning anything from the lesson. Now, back to the evaluation part, teachers must alway evaluate those things as there are always rooms for improvement. Be it for the teachers or the courserware, websites, material, etc.

2. How do you think Hot Potatoes JCloze may help your students learn English?

I think Hot Potatoes JCloze may help my students learn English in many kind of ways. In general, the cloze passage itself is used to test students overall understanding towards the text. Once the students learn what to look for in the passage, the right answer will often just pop into their head. By applicating the use of Hot Potatoes JCloze, teachers can insert pictures and set the template's color to be more interesting. With this, students will have higher motivation in filling in all the blanks. In addition, teachers can also provide the students with clues if they are unable to give the right answer. The most important thing is, students are exposed to the use of technology, which is very crucial in this era. Besides, they can always practice, make mistakes and learn on their own from the comfort of their own house.
